7. Breakfast Bars

If ever there was a food that was over-marketed as a healthy option when it actually isn't, we'd be hard-pressed to find one more than breakfast bars. Breakfast bars are often sold as options for athletes and those who exercise regularly and don't have time to make granola or muesli. Often they are not as healthy as they claim to be. So make sure to read the label before purchasing them. As with many cereals, cereal bars are often loaded with sugar, most often from sugar syrups and honey, which serve to glue everything together. Additionally, they lack protein because they are not accompanied by cow's milk or a dairy alternative, such as soy milk or almond milk. When we eat protein for breakfast, we stay full longer, so eating this bar for breakfast will likely have your stomach growling a few hours later.
Choosing healthier versions with a glass of milk or those with low sugar content and no added sugars will benefit your health.
