15 Breakfast Foods That Are Secretly Ruining Your Day

2. Pancakes or waffles

Pancake ingredients include flour, eggs, milk, sugar, and a leavening agent, such as baking soda, which provides pancakes with their fluff. There are also vegan pancake recipes that include egg and milk substitutes, and gluten-free flour alternatives can also be used to make gluten-free pancakes. All of these breakfast options have one thing in common: sugar! The waffles are pretty much the same. Yet they are both very common breakfast foods. As a result, pancakes and waffles are loaded with sugar because we don't often eat them plain. Which does? We load them up with sugary syrups and crispy bacon high in saturated fat and salt, which only adds to the calories, without adding much to their nutritional value. The flour often used for both is white flour, which has been processed to remove all the beneficial B vitamins and whole grains. Holiday breakfasts are the best time to serve them!
