Bananas are actually pretty good as a food. Yes, bananas! We knew you would be shocked! They are full of fiber which helps maintain a healthy, flowing gut and they are full of micronutrients such as potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants which help promote a healthy immune system. Plus, they're high in sugar, which can cause spikes and drops in blood sugar, leading us to snack before lunch.
It's a carbohydrate, so eating bananas means consuming a good amount of carbohydrates, with few good fats and little protein. Because bananas are not a complete food, eating them alone won't last you for long and you'll soon be hungry. You can add bananas to smoothies or chop them and spread them on wholemeal toast. Adding a thin layer of your favorite nut butter will add a nutritional boost of protein. Go bananas for bananas, just make sure you eat them with something else to stay full all morning.
