Afghan Hounds are very strong-willed dogs who need a strong leader in their lives. This breed was originally bred as a guard dog and hunting dog. It's very important to be gentle, calm and collected when interacting with Afghans...it's not the easiest for toddlers. Their large size also makes them a danger for children.
